A BILL to amend article six, chapter five of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated section sixteen, relating to requiring that all buildings that are built with public funds and maintained with public funds shall be constructed with the use of at least twenty-five percent steel framing.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That article six, chapter five of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated section sixteen, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 6. STATE BUILDING COMMISSION.

§5-6-16. Steel framing required.

Notwithstanding any other provision of this code to the contrary, after the first day of April, one thousand nine hundred ninety-eight, any building that is designed, constructed and maintained with public funds of the state, a county or a municipality shall be constructed with at least twenty-five percent steel framing. The provisions of this section do not apply to the construction of school buildings or facilities.



NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require that all buildings built and maintained with public funds use at least 25% steel framing. School buildings and facilities are exempt from this requirement.
